Syrian aircraft takes off from Damascus airport
Damascus – George Al Shami
The Syrian Ministry of Transport announced it will appoint a new board of directors with the state-owned Syrian Arab Airlines – to be recruited from existing employees and externally.
According to the plans, Dr Mohammed Wasel, Dean of the Faculty of Law in Damascus ?University has been appointed chairman of the board. Retired Army General ?Dr Mohammed Eid is to be appointed on the board – the transport office is yet to confirm his specific title.
The transport ministry said the reshuffle was in response to an unfair blockade imposed on the Syrian aviation industry, by the United States and its European allies.
It said one of the key forthcoming tasks for the new board will be to develop the country’s fleet of commercial aircraft, and to re-establish Syrian Arab Airlines within the international community.
