The UAE pavilion at the Expo Milano has organised a special corner, where Emirati youths offer Arabic coffee and samples of candy and light Emirati traditional food to visitors, who are impressed with the traditional food and the way of its preparation.
The corner at the UAE pavilion aims to introduce popular cuisine and drinks, which are an important part of the country's history and heritage. This is in line with the implementation of the official slogan of Expo Milano "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", which kicked off earlier this month and will run for six months.
This logo is designed to provide an opportunity for visitors to reflect on food, which is an important part of peoples' heritage. It also focusses on accessing and storing food, as well as shedding light on the undernourished.
The exhibition also aims to raise awareness of the human being's right to adequate food and proper health as well as economic, social and environmental sustainability, and the preservation of taste and culture of the good diet that makes one eats to live and not vice versa.
All peoples on earth agree that food is a source of pleasure, nutrition and brings a sense of security. It is a symbol of the continuation of life and partnership among human beings. Thus, Expo Milano is a unique opportunity to experience an unforgettable collection of various types of food from all parts of the world, and the commitment of the participant countries to find ways for sustainability of food production and delivery to ensure preservation of the planet.
The Expo will present, during the six months, more than 26 million meals from all participant countries. Visitors will discover different types of coffee, rice, chocolate, spices, grains, vegetables, fruits, including, including organic fruit types.
This gathering will introduce the cultures of peoples and bring them closer, as well as break psychological barriers and abolish stereotypes about each other. It will contribute to establishing friendships among visitors who arrive from different countries. This event represents an opportunity for the Arab and Islamic countries to play an active role in correcting the image tarnished by some militant groups or entities that are offensive to their religion, culture and civilisation. It was the very culture that had enlightened the West at a certain period.
Among the large numbers of visitors to the exhibition are young people and students. Therefore, it is the responsibility of Arab and Islamic countries to double efforts to induce the real image of the Arab and Muslim nation among them to serve national objectives of the Arab and Muslim nation.
Expo Milano 2015 will provide an opportunity to reflect upon, and seek solutions to the contradictions of our world. On the one hand, there are still the hungry (approximately 870 million people were undernourished in the period 2010 - 2012) and, on the other, there are those who die from ailments linked to poor nutrition or too much food (approximately 2.8 million deaths from diseases related to obesity or to being overweight in the same period). In addition, about 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year.
For these reasons, we need to make conscious political choices, develop sustainable lifestyles, and use the best technology to create a balance between the availability and the consumption of resources.
