Egyptian Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou
Egyptian Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou and Ambassador in London Ashraf el-Kholy convinced the UK Foreign Office to lift a travel ban on Luxor and Aswan. Speaking to MENA, Zaazou said he and Kholy had a very fruitful meeting
with a UK Foreign Office secretary on the developments in Egypt and the security situation, which has largely improved recently.
A report by the UK ambassador to Egypt on the security situation that was sent to the UK Foreign Office had also a great influence in lifting the travel ban, Zaazou said, adding that the report was sent before his visit to London.
The Egyptian tourism minister said that once the decision was taken, he contacted major UK tour operators working in Egypt, especially in Luxor and Aswan, and all were thrilled to resume their trips to Egypt.
He said he also contacted EgyptAir to resume its direct London flights to Luxor and Aswan as well as UK airways operating on the same route.
