Interior design brand Habitat
Interior design brand Habitat is celebrating its 50-year anniversary by offering the chance for designers to create a product and see it sold in-store.
The brand has launched the IT-Design Habitat competition to look for
2014's next big thing.
Entries could range from a piece of furniture to a high-tech product or an accessory, but like the ‘It bag' of the noughties, the ‘It design' will be an influential product for the year ahead.
Three winning entries will be chosen to be turned into prototypes, financed by the crowdfunding website MyMajorCompany.com.
The designs will be displayed in the brand's Paris retail space. They will then be finalized and made available to buy in-store at the group's locations across Europe, half a century since the first branch was opened by Sir Terrance Conran in London in 1964.
Designer and Artistic Director of Habitat Pierre Favresse said the competition was a way for the brand to adopt a fresh global approach, taking into account lifestyle changes.
"It is a wonderful opportunity to encourage new talent and, above all, new and different visions," he said.
The entry process for IT-Design Habitat will close on February 28, 2014. More information can be found at www.itdesignhabitat.com.
