Corvette Stingray sports car
Action figures, novelty games and hi-tech computer consoles may come and go under the Christmas tree, but traditional toy cars still have their place on Santa’s sleigh for boys and girls – especially, if they are as cool as Chevrolet’s new Corvette
Stingray sports car.
As well as winning several top automotive industry awards, the newest, fastest and arguably most iconic vehicle in Chevrolet’s line-up has gained yet another accolade, being the most licensed die cast and model car in the world this year, according to General Motors Branded Entertainment and Licensing. In total, more than 2 million official GM licensed Stingrays have been sold around the world this year.
“Whether you are young car fans or just a big kid at heart, who wouldn’t want to have a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at home?” said Vijay Iyer, Director of Communications, Chevrolet Europe. “We are happy that this iconic Chevrolet sports car continues to excite millions of small and big fans around the world,” Iyer added.
Everything from scale models and power wheels toys to remote control cars and ride-on versions of the highly acclaimed sports car have been downsized for kids around the world this year. The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray even features as game token in Monopoly Empire - the first ever “real” car in the game.
One of the most popular toy cars since 1968
From Disney Pixar Animation Studios’ Cars 2 and the 2014 Transformers movie to Hot Wheels and Fisher Price models, Chevrolet’s Corvette has been firmly in the hearts and minds of children big and small when it comes to Christmas for 60 years.
In the USA, Hot Wheels continues to be the no. 1 vehicle property year after year. Starting in 1968, the first Hot Wheels models – including a C3 generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - rolled off the production line. The Chevrolet Corvette has regularly held top spot as the world’s best-selling toy car ever since.
While Chevrolet is the world's fourth largest car brand with annual sales of almost 5 million cars and trucks in more than 140 countries, its sales are outgunned by the iconic toy car maker, with more than 4 billion Hot Wheels cars produced since 1968.
While 13,698 Chevrolets are sold every day, 2.75 Hot Wheels models are purchased every second in the world. That is more than Detroit’s “Big Three” have manufactured, combined, since the start of the auto industry.
