McLaren 650S
The McLaren 650S will borrow from the company's existing supercars to offer something that combines super speed and super comfort in equal measure. Rumors have been rife for some time that McLaren is about to build a sub-$120,000
supercar that will blow the Porsche 911 and various Aston Martins off the road.
And while the UK company is still planning on doing exactly that, it wants to eliminate the competition further up the supercar food chain first.
The McLaren 650S will be aimed at those who would otherwise be sizing up a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Lamborghini Huracán, or a Ferrari 458 Speciale, and will try to do so by lifting elements from both of its existing supercars -- the 12C and the P1.
Compromise in design, especially when it comes to creating cars, can be a terrible thing. By trying to make something okay for a large number of drivers, the result is something that is liked, but never loved by anyone -- a car that could have been a contender but tragically had its wings clipped.
However, when that compromise is in order to build something that is faster than a McLaren 12C, yet more comfortable than a McLaren P1, the results could be spectacular and have well-heeled petrolheads tripping over each other in the rush to snap one up.
As McLaren explains: "[The 650S is] designed and developed to offer the enthusiast driver the ultimate in luxury, engagement and excitement, as well as dramatic yet beautiful styling, the McLaren 650S is the result of 50 years of competing, and winning, at the highest levels of motorsport."
The car will be making its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 4 but McLaren plans to release more details and images in the run up to the reveal.
And after the company's boasts, the car had better be impressive as the latest Lamborghini -- the aforementioned Huracán -- and the new Ferrari California T convertible will also be making their debuts at the same event.
