Segway SE-3 Patroller is only available to security professionals
Segway, the brand known the world over for its self-balancing electric vehicles, has developed a new three-wheeled model for patrolling city streets and parks. Priced at $11,999, the Segway SE-3 Patroller is initially available only to
professional customers in the security sector.
Segway's idea was to design a model with a somewhat intimidating appearance that is both stable, environmentally friendly and quick to mount and dismount. Although the Patroller looks somewhat like a traditional electric scooter, the rider remains in the upright position. The vehicle stops automatically when the rider dismounts and starts up again as soon as he or she steps back onto its platform.
The SE-3 Patroller has a single headlight, a siren and a small storage compartment with a lock. There is also a 4.3-inch color screen where drivers can view vehicle data such as speed, distance traveled and the status of the lithium-ion battery.
Segway says that the Patroller, developed specifically for law enforcement and security professionals, "displays a more visible and obvious security presence" than its two-wheeled models, which are already used by a number of police departments around the globe.
