An Egyptian man tries to access a website at an internet cafe
Cairo – Akram Ali
Egyptian Attorney General Abdul Majed Mahmoud has officially has requested members of the ministry to take necessary measures to ban pornographic websites from the internet. Public Prosecution Spokesman
Adel Al Sayed said "this is a decision by the administrative court in the state judiciary council in May 2009 to close down all pornography websites.”
The decision caused great controversy among politicians who said there are technical difficulties to ban those websites.
Spokesman of el-Nour Salafist Party Mohamed Nour said that this was a big step to “protect our values and ethics.”
Telecommunication expert Amr Osama Hany said banning those website could be done completely because modern technology will simply not allow for it to completely disappear.
Another expert, Ahmed Ali said "modern technology could challenge any obstacles. Pornography websites are based on financial benefits from advertisements. The website will do what they can to resist this ban and lose its income."
He said some Egyptian youth will try to hack the banned websites, sources said.
