Security forces have intensified their presence outside the Egyptian Media Production City, in Cairo, following fresh rallies by supporters of former President Mohammed Morsi
.
Protesters clashed with riot police on Friday, after the government ordered their sit-in demonstrations to be cleared around the country.
Around 1,000 demonstrators attempting to set up a camp outside a television compound in the media city were fired upon with tear gas by riot police, who tried to prevent further sit-ins from being set-up.
Police also fired shots in the air to clear the area.
A number of rioters who broke free from the main group were arrested as they attempted to storm the compound.
Panic scenes were witnessed throughout the area as residents in the media city attempted to avoid the tear gas.
According to a source, one soldier was injured in the clashes.
