Social media has revolutionised Iraqi society
News, reality shows and Arabic series are the most popular types of TV programmes watched in Iraq and that the vast majority of respondents who watch TV prefer
to watch it in Arabic, according to a new comprehensive survey from the Arab Advisors Group probing the media consumption habits in Iraq.
The survey report, Iraq Media Survey 2013, provides the results of a major comprehensive survey of media consumption habits in the country. The survey covers television; radio, Internet; online gaming and specialised gaming devices usage habits. .
The 52 page-survey revealed that around 59 percent of respondents who watch satellite TV reported watching reality TV shows. Arab Idol was the most watched reality show, with 50 percent of the survey respondents who watch satellite TV reporting that they watched it.
The survey, which concluded in July 2013, also revealed high levels of adoption of social media in the country. 77.9 percent of survey respondents who use the Internet reported having an account on one or more social media platform, while 77.2 percent stated that they have an account on Facebook.
