The National Media Council organised a workshop in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy entitled " Is there a legal protection for media news" discussing copyrights.
The workshop was moderated by Lt. Colonel Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Maeeny, Head of Innovation Centers Department in Dubai Police.
The workshop was organised within the framework of the Council's efforts to promote media culture and enhance the media sector in the UAE and achieve cooperation between all related institutions.
During the workshop, Dr. Al Maeeny spoke of the importance of copyrights as it protects important inventions, literature and artwork, including novels, theatrical plays, movies, music and softwares.
Al Maeeny said that the article 46 of the federal law number 15 for the year 1980 prohibits the publication of any articles, novels, or any publications without the consent of the writer.
The workshop also discussed unprotected works, including news, accidents news, and covering the current events, in addition to law texts, agreements, judicial verdicts. Article 3 of the aforementioned law that copyrights don't include ideas, procedures, work regulations, mathematics principles but it applies on innovative change in these texts.
Moreover, the workshop discussed copyrights and related rights by presenting practical models for writing standards, and intellectual seed, along with a range of forms of violations of copyrights and related penalties.
