The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, an independent, research-driven graduate-level university focused on advanced energy and sustainable technologies, yesterday announced that nine Emirati students have completed the Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE) annual six-week internship programme in Japan.
The annual JICE summer internship programme for Masdar Institute students is intended to provide advanced learning opportunities in the latest research and development in the field of clean technologies. The programme also aims to offer the interns a closer understanding of the social and work culture in Japan, one of the world's most technologically innovative countries.
Masako Kishimoto, Vice President, JICE, said, "Students from Masdar Institute displayed enthusiasm to learn advanced technologies during their stay here in Japan. We are delighted that our earnest efforts at JICE continue to contribute towards human development in the UAE, while strengthening ties between the two countries."
Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, Interim Provost, Masdar Institute, said "The collaboration with JICE for the internship programme aims to develop talented youth who have the right capabilities to contribute towards the UAE's economic progress. We thank the government and private organisations in Japan that have helped the nine Emirati students to learn about clean smart technologies in a professional environment."
Sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), the programme is organised by JICE. A total of five Japanese corporations – including Chiyoda Corporation, JGC Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, and Yokogawa Electric Corporation – collaborated with JICE to offer the internship to the nine students.
The first stage of the internship began in Abu Dhabi on 12th of April with an orientation lecture and Japanese language lessons. A pre-departure orientation held in Abu Dhabi on 23rd April helped prepare the group for a meaningful cultural immersion during their six-week field internship in Japan. The actual internship experience took place in Japan from 17th of May to 26th of June.
Students learned about the latest technologies and interacted with professionals in the corporate sector.
