Abu Dhabi Municipality is implementing a sustainable street lighting strategy to cut the total cost of lighting by approximately 60 to 75 per cent over the next 20 years.
Switching from traditional lights on streets and underpasses to LED lights will reduce carbon dioxide emissions and maintenance costs.
The switch from traditional to LED lights on Sheikh Zayed Bridge allowed an 81 per cent drop in power in consumption.
The municipality explained that the strategy aims to implement policies and procedures based on the principle of sustainability and achieving rationing in power consumption.
