The tree fell near the mosque\'s western wall
Palestine – Sona Adeek
Two ancient palm trees have fallen on the Western side of the Holy Al-Aqsa mosque yard in Jerusalem on Sunday night.
In a statement to Arabstoday,
the Al-Aqsa heritage foundation said that “the main branch of another tree fell last Saturday on the Mosque eastern side, near the el-Rahma door”.
Israeli settlers have been digging under the mosque and spraying chemicals, which caused the trees to die and fall, according to the foundation.
Previous incidents have been recorded; trees and branches have fallen down around Al-Aqsa mosque, which some believe to be the result of Israeli excavation beneath the mosque\'s western wall.
Similarly, the foundation has seen other cases of fallen trees and cracks in walls around the mosque.
The foundation also discovered that some settlers were spraying unidentified chemicals on tree roots and branches that were surrounding the mosque. Israeli settlers installed several security cameras around the mosque, which were blocked by the surrounding trees.
The Arabic Islamic Palestinian committee is planning to form a group of engineers who would study these issues in more depth.
