In celebrations of the eighteenth National Environment day (green economy innovator — sustainability), the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPPA) has opened the Botanical Garden in the Natural History & Botanical Museum (Sharjah Desert Park).
Hana Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority Said: "Concurring with the national environment day celebration, Sharjah Environment opened the Botanical Garden, the first of its kind in the UAE with 3,000 local plants from 87 types like Al Ashkhar, Al Ghaf, Torfa, Seder, Remeth, Shoa, Ara and Arfaj, and the garden is a symbol of the important researches in the Emirate of Sharjah done by researchers interested in local plants.”
She added: "The Botanical Garden is equipped over three years where we've planted those plants in basins containing special soil, other types of local plants have been grown without basins where they can adapt in all kinds of environment and we provided soil types that help plants live.
"Salt and limestone soils and soil zones of silt and soil of the coastal plain have been taken from different areas in Sharjah such as Khor fakkan, Al dhaid, Al Mesnad and the coast of Al Hamriya.”
