Prahlad Jani has undergone medical experiments in the past
An Indian saint has claimed that he has been living without food and water since 1940.
Prahlad Jani says he is entering his 73rd
year of hunger, having spent the last 72 years in meditation.
The Indian holy man says that he renounced the world when he was seven years old, leaving his family to meditate in the jungle. He believes that sustenance comes through the blessing of Hindu Goddess Amba, who came to him when he was 11.
Jani now lives in a hermit cave in the state of Gujarat, near the famous Ambaji temple. He wakes up at 0400 hrs every morning to meditate.
To date, two studies have been performed on Jani, in 2003 and 2010. Although neither study was published in a scientific journal, scientists confirmed that Jani survived without food or water through their testing period of 15 days.
The experiments saw Jani under 24-hour video surveillance, but symptoms of hunger or dehydration were not reported. The ability to survive without food or water has baffled scientists around the world.
