It’s not everyday that students set records and that too at the global level. But Rohan Sampath, a student of the Dubai Modern High School, has exceeded all expectations. Scoring 99.5 per cent in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) exams, Rohan got the highest marks ever scored by any student. The Grade 12 student scored 100 in Mathematics, 100 in Physics, 100 in Computer Science and 98 in English, making him the world topper in this year’s examinations. The young lad was over the moon as he said: “I cannot quite believe this has happened. When I got the results I thought it was a ‘typo’!” Beating stiff competition from students back in India, Rohan has made his parents, school and friends proud with a fine achievement. “There is no tried and true formula to study and do homework. I did not have set hours each day. I just studied until I felt I had a good grasp of what I had been taught that day,” said Rohan. Rohan already has concrete plans for his future and he has received admission offers at Yale and Standford University. He is contemplating his choice of university but his stellar track record is nothing short of being termed ‘extra-ordinary’. Darryl Bloud, Principal of DMHS, said: “Rohan Sampat has re-defined the term ‘full potential’ by raising the bar at Modern High with his phenomenal achievement at the ISC Examinations 2012. We salute this outstanding member of the Modern fraternity.” The school principal was all praise for the student’s achievement as he added: “Rohan is the ‘World Topper’ at this year’s examinations with an average score of 99.5 per cent, which is not only the best ever at our school, but also the highest score achieved by any student in the history of the ISC Examinations, ever since its inception in 1956.” Apart from his excellent academic track record, Rohan is also an ace swimmer, a tennis player and a good orator. He has the distinction of representing the UAE at international debate competitions. His long list of accomplishments continues at the school level as he also heads the debating society at the school while being a captain. A total of 91 students from the school appeared for the ISC exams this year as the school recorded a 100 per cent pass result. Students of the Sharjah-based Progressive English School also achieved a 100 per cent pass result.
