Hailemariam Desalegn, Ethiopia’s former deputy prime minister and foreign affairs, was sworn in as the country’s new Prime Minister, after a parliament approval on Friday replacing former Prime minister Meles Zenawi who passed away last month. Meles had been in office for 21 years. Last week,the new prime minister was chosen to head the governing Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). The new premier, born in 1965 in southern Ethiopia , has earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Addis Ababa University and holds a masters degree in Organizational Leadership. He also served in different academic and administrative capacities in Ethiopia.
