Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, visited The Royal Academy of Engineering on Thursday. He was welcomed by Sir John Parker, President of the Academy, past president Lord Alec Broers, and Hamid Jafar, Chairman of Crescent Petroleum and member of board of trustees of the American University of Sharjah. Sheikh Sultan took a tour of various departments and facilities of the Academy, familiarising himself with its programmes and activities and its significant contributions and services to the British community. He also stopped at the state-of-the-art 180 - seat Al Qasimi Lecture Theatre whose construction was funded by Sheikh Sultan. Sir John Parker, President of the Academy, said the theatre was named after Sheikh Sultan in recognition of his donation which made the project a reality. He also lauded Sheikh Sultan\'s vision for cross-cultural interaction and his tremendous support and care for education in Sharjah, which has established itself as a premier learning centre in the Middle East. For his turn, Sheikh Sultan credited the Academy as a major contributor to the outstanding engineering and technology excellence.
