On the early brisk morning hours of 10 February, Smart Village in 6th October governorate will witness a unique event as the second "Kidathon" in Egypt kicks off.
The first Kidathon — the biggest ever marathon in Egypt dedicated to children — took place a year ago, leaving a footprint as an annual event for the coming years.
The idea was launched by Egyptian adventurer Omar Samra, aiming to motivate young ones to endorse a healthier lifestyle and contribute to society.
This year, Samra is dedicating the run to helping Syrian refugees via the donation of a toy upon registration.
Warm-up stretches will take place at 10am before the race, and children will be distributed in three groups according to their age.
Children from six to eight-years-old will start at 10:30am, followed by ages nine to 11 at 11:00am, before the oldest participants, aging from 12 to 14, set off at 11:30am.
Prizes, certificates and medals after the race will be given all participants, before attendees are offered other activities, among them yoga classes, adventure games, and arts and crafts
Omar Samra is an Egyptian banker-turned adventurer who made history when he succeeded in May 2007 in becoming the first Egyptian and the youngest Arab (then 29-years-old) to climb Mount Everest.
Samra broke another record by becoming the first Egyptian to complete the "seven summits" challenge — climbing the highest mountains on seven continents.
A few years ago, Samra launched Marwa Fayed's Toy Run, an NGO dedicated to bringing toys to underprivileged children
