Mina Shalabi Controversial Egyptian director Enas Al Dughaidi has nominated young Egyptian actress Mina Shalabi for the leading role in her upcoming film “Al Samt” (Silence),
which tackles the subject of sexual relationships out of wedlock.
The film is based on the novel “Al Samt” by author Hind Al Ziadi and the script was written by Rafeeq Al Saban. A few months ago when the film was presented to the Egyptian Censorship Committee it was rejected on the basis that it contained provocative and daring scenes considered inappropriate for the average viewer. Following the rejection, Enas filed an appeal to the Higher Cultural Council and as a result an approval was granted. The decision was based on the assumption that a number of modifications would be made to the script and scenes. However sources have revealed that the film was passed by the Censorship Committee in the wake of the departure of the government of former President Hosni Mubarak, without deleting any of the scenes.
