The robot-themed film Chappie was No. 1 at the North American box office during its opening weekend, Rentrak announced Sunday.
The science-fiction picture starring Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver earned $13.3 million.
Focus followed at No. 2 with $10 million, while The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was No. 3 with $8.6 million, Kingsman: The Secret Service was No. 4 with $8.3 million and SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water was No. 5 with $7 million.
Rounding out the top tier for the weekend of March 6-8 are Fifty Shades of Grey at No. 6 with $5.6 million, McFarland, USA at No. 7 with $5.3 million, The Lazarus Effect at No. 8 with $5.1 million, The DUFF at No. 9 with $4.9 million and Unfinished Business at No. 10 with $4.8 million.
