The eleventh Gulf Social Societies and Associations Forum themed (Addressing the phenomenon of domestic violence in the GCC countries) will be launched tomorrow under the patronage of Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan.
Bahrain Sociologists Association in collaboration with Gulf Sociologists Association stage the event on November 21-23 to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The forum will shed light on the phenomenon of domestic violence, its dimensions, effects and ways of prevention. It will identify the roles of relevant government institutions and NGOs at the local and Gulf levels. It will also
highlights the role of social counselors in addressing the same issue in the Gulf region.
Specialized academics from Gulf universities, anti-domestic violence workers, domestic violence lawyers and specialists in the field of legislation, judiciary and prosecution will be attended, in addition to specialists from the Gulf supreme councils for women, children and persons with disabilities. Representatives from regional and Arab institutions and authorities in charge of domestic and social issues will also attend.
