The ongoing state of emergency in Turkey is to be extended following a National Security Council recommendation on Monday, state news agency Anadolu reported.
The council said that the state of emergency serves "the protection of our democracy, the rule of law and the rights and freedoms of our citizens." The emergency laws first went into effect in July after a failed coup by a faction in the military. It has been extended every three months since.
