Acting Charge d'Affaires of Qatar's Embassy in Kenya Ali bin Abdullah Al Abdullah said that the Qatari-Kenyan relations will witness a great development thanks to the political will of the two countries' leaders to promote joint cooperation in all fields and build a strategic partnership.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Abdullah said that the anticipated visit of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Kenya in the framework of his African tour would signal the launch of a new era of mutual cooperation between Doha and Nairobi in all areas, mainly in the economy field.
He said that HH the Emir's visit to Kenya represents an opportunity to discuss cooperation, signing agreements and activating the previous agreements in various fields, notably water, energy, construction, agriculture, mining, telecommunications and infrastructure.
He commended Qatar's openness to the world and its keenness to enhance relations with the African countries, which reflect the wise vision of the Qatari leadership and its awareness of the importance of establishing relations with Africa in general and Kenya in particular in view of its strategic and geopolitical position and its active membership in a number of important economic groups, such as the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and other international organizations.
He noted a political consensus between Qatar and Kenya in terms of achieving security and stability in the African continent, through Kenya's important position in the African Union and East Africa, and Qatar's contributions to that efforts aiming at resolving conflicts in Africa such as Qatar's active and successful role in resolving the Darfur crisis, as well as its humanitarian and relief role in the African continent.
He also stressed Qatar and Kenya's consensus towards regional and international issues, which reflects the continuous cooperation between the two countries, noting Kenya's support to Qatar's candidate for the UNESCO Director-General post HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.
