A gang of four people, who allegedly stole a number of vehicles, has been arrested, police said on Monday.
Major Mohammad Yafour Al Ghafli, deputy director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Ajman Police, said the gang stole five vehicles and two bikes that were parked outside houses and dimly-lit areas in the emirate.
The suspects are all Gulf nationals. Police launched an investigation after they received complaints from a number of car owners.
The suspects confessed that they had stolen seven vehicles from different areas in the emirate. The modus operandi was the same: they would break open the vehicles and move it to another place. They confessed that they used to steal vehicles to drive them after which they abandoned them in deserted areas.
The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Major Al Ghafli urged motorists not to leave their vehicles in poorly-lit places and sandy areas. The police also urged the public to alert them about any suspicious activities.
