Myanmar's Mon state parliament Wednesday approved the appointment of U Aye Zan as new Chief Minister of the state to replace U Min Min Oo who resigned from post recently, U Aung Naing Oo, vice speaker of the Mon state parliament told Xinhua.
Nominated by the President, U Aye Zan, a 62-year-old doctor, won the 2015 general election from Kyeikhto constituency-2 as a state representative from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD).
U Aye Zan held the post of chairman of the Planning and Finance Committee and Environmental Conservation Committee of the state parliament.
He had also won the 1990 general election from the same constituency as a NLD representative.
Ex-Mon State Chief Minister and State Minister of Development and Construction U Min Min Oo resigned out of his own volition on Feb. 20.
It was the first resignation of a chief minister since the NLD-led government took office in April last year.
