Afghan forces have repulsed Taliban multi-pronged attack against police checkpoints around Baghlan's provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri city late Saturday night, forcing militants to flee after leaving 10 bodies behind, provincial police chief Ikramuddin Sari said Sunday.
"Taliban launched a wide offensive late on Saturday night, on the security forces checkposts in Baghlan provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri, but were retreated after suffering huge casualties and leaving 10 bodies behind," Sari told reporters here.
He also added that 11 more insurgents sustained injuries in the fighting, saying security forces would continue to chase insurgents.
Two security personnel, he added, had been injured in the fighting.
However, Zabihullah Mujaheed who introduces himself as the Taliban spokesman, in contact with media outlets said that their fighters had killed 10 government soldiers and taken control of a government base in the area.
