Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has presented a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's representative in Palestinian territories Robert Serry, calling for providing international protection for the Palestinian people and their territories.
In his letter, Abbas said the Palestinian leadership had decided to submit an official request to the UN for international protection for the people and land of Palestine.
The Palestinian leader condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, especially air raids last night, lamenting that more civilians were killed or wounded and buildings were damaged.
"At the behest of the Palestinian leadership, I have summoned Serry and handed him a letter to deliver to the (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon," Abbas said.
Israeli warplanes launched air raids on Gaza city late Saturday and killed 23 people, most of them of the same family, and injured 50 others.
