The Director General of Crossings in Gaza Nadhmi Muhanna said Saturday Israel informed them they have officially shut down Karam Abu Salem Crossing, the commercial crossing for east of Gaza and the northern Crossing of Bait Hanoun, until further notice.
In a statement received by KUNA, Muhanna said that the Israelis informed the Palestinian side about the closure of the crossings due to security reasons without knowing how long it will take to be re-opened for goods and citizens.
Earlier, the Israeli army said they arrested two Palestinians inside Ashkol settlements, east of Gaza, after crossing a fence.
Israeli media said that the two were not armed, but were taken for investigation by the Shin Bet.
Karam Abu Salem Crossing is the only commercial crossing for more than one million Palestinians living inside Gaza, while Beit Hanoun Crossing is considered an important passage for patients who are being treated in hospitals in the West Bank.
