Five Palestinians from one family were killed by Israeli artillery fire that hit their home in southern Gaza Strip town of Biet Hanoun, medical sources said.
Five people, including two children, all from the Abu Jarad family, were killed and 10 others were injured when Israeli tanks stationed near the border with Gaza opened artillery fire at houses in the town, medics said.
So far, 287 Palestinians were killed and more than 2,000 injured since Israel started Operation Protective Edge on July 8 to end Gaza rocket fire into Israel.
Death toll mounted to 45 since late Thursday night Israeli stepped a limited ground operation in Gaza which aims at destroying tunnels used by militants to carry out military operations inside Israel.
