The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished on Tuesday two Palestinian-owned homes in the town of Al-Issawiya, northeast of Jerusalem, according to local sources.Israeli bulldozers backed by Israeli police forces surrounded the area before proceeding to demolish the house, which belongs to Ahmad Abu al-Humus, a local Palestinian, under the pretext of construction without a permit.
Israeli forces also demolished another house which belongs to Riyad Muhesan in al-Issawiya, also under the same pretext.Home demolitions in East Jerusalem have surged since the beginning of this year with the right wing municipality vowing to demolish all Palestinian buildings built without permit.
While Palestinians in Jerusalem say they are forced to build structures and buildings without a permit as the Israeli municipality does not issue permits for them, Jewish settlers are regularly given the approval of constructing more housing units in Jewish-only settlements.
