The mortar shells crashed into Warta Nabada district in central Mogadishu early on Tuesday. No deaths or injuries were reported. No group has claimed responsibility for the mortar attack. A large number of displaced persons are living in the district where similar mortar attacks have claimed lives of several people during the past weeks. The latest attack came as President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed is currently in the United States to attend the United Nations Security Council. Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
