Afghan special forces attacked a Taliban prison in southern Helmand province, liberating 60 prisoners, officials said on Friday.
The prison run by the province's Taliban shadow governor Mullah Manan was located in Nawzad district of Helmand, Afghan officials said Coalition forces supported the Afghan special units, according to a statement from the international military assistance mission Resolute Support, which also said that the raid occurred during the cover of darkness Thursday night.
According to the statement, two insurgents were killed during the operation, and "numerous" were wounded and detained.
The liberated prisoners are now reportedly in Kandahar, in the south of the country.
