Two Taliban militants have been killed while 42 suspects were detained in Afghan army operations, said the Defense Ministry on Sunday morning.
"Afghan army carried out cleanup operations in surrounding areas of eastern Logar and Ghazni provinces over the past 24 hours, killing two insurgents and detaining 42 other suspects," the ministry said in a statement.
The army seized weapons and ammunition. The army specialists defused 11 Taliban roadside bombs and landmines, according to the statement.
One army soldier was killed in a roadside bombing over the same period, it noted.
In an unrelated incident, on Saturday evening, 11 Taliban militants were killed and six others wounded in a NATO drone strike in Obe district of western Herat province, the provincial governor Sayyed Fazlullah Wahidi told Xinhua earlier on the day.
The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.
