One Afghan policeman was killed and three civilians sustained injuries when a bomb went off in the country's eastern province of Laghan Friday, said a statement issued by provincial government here. "Militants attached a bomb on a donkey and detonated it through a remote controller near an Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoint in Teenkor area of Alingar district at around 7:20 a.m. Friday. The blast killed an ALP cop named Taslim Khan and wounded three passersby," the statement said. The NATO and U.S.-funded ALP or community police was established in mid-2010 to protect villages and districts around the insurgency-hit country where Afghan army and police have limited presence. The statement blamed Taliban for organizing the attack in the province 90 km east of Afghan capital Kabul. Condemning the incident, Provincial Governor Fazlullah Mujadidi said in the statement that the trick exposes Taliban's cruelty against both human being and animals. The insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than a decade, has recently intensified attacks across the country as spring and summer known as the fighting season is drawing near. On Wednesday, up to 46 civilians and security members and nine attackers were killed and over 100 wounded when Taliban launched an attack against the provincial courthouse in western Farah province. The Taliban has warned the civilians to stay away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers regarded as the legitimate targets by militants besides warning people against supporting government and foreign troops. The Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts claimed the lives of more than 2,800 Afghan security forces and over 400 foreign soldiers besides leaving 2,750 civilians dead last year in the central Asian state.
