At least eight soldiers were killed in an armed attack by Al-Qaeda militants at a security checkpoint in the western Al-Hudaida area, security sources said on Saturday.
In statement security sources said confrontations occurred between security personnel and Al-Qaeda elements in Jabal Al-Ras Directorate in Ebb province and Al-Hudaida, which resulted in killing eight soldiers.
Al-Qaeda armed men claimed they are in control of the Directorate and established security checkpoints.
The area witnessed fierce clashes in the past between the two sides due to its strategic geographic location and being a crossing area for weapon smuggling.
Prior to the capture of this area, Al-Qaeda organization withdrew from nearby Al-Ain Directorate after Houthi armed men took control of it beginning of last month.
