A Yemeni official asserted on Friday that there have been steps taken to establish joint committees to put into effect a ceasefire in all Yemeni governorates that plunge into battles for months.
The ceasefire announcement, made by the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh, comes after assurances that joint committees will be formed to monitor the ceasefire due to be put into effect on April 10 in all Yemeni governorates that are hit by confrontations, notably, Taiz, Marib, Al Jawf and Shabwa, he said.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the committees will commence their work as soon as possible and spread out across all conflict areas before the date of the ceasefire.
A new round of peace talks will take place in Kuwait on April 18 between all Yemeni warring parties, the UN envoy said.
