Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, has said that failure to address the worsening economic conditions in Yemen will have dire consequences on civilian life.
The Kuwait News Agency quoted the UN Envoy as saying in a press release last night, "The delegates to the ongoing peace talks in Kuwait are solely able to bring about a change to the situation in their country."
"The UN-facilitated peace talks cannot move forward unless the stakeholders offer mutual concession," he stressed.
Earlier yesterday, the Special Envoy met representatives of the Yemeni government, Ansarullah movement and the General People's Congress, in a bid to bringing closer their view points on such issues as the pullout from residential areas and laying down of arms.
He also met Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister, Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarallah, who renewed his country's support for the talks.
