Assistant professor at the Department of Social Work at the University of the United Arab Emirates and retired Lt. Col. Taghreed Abu Sarhan connected with her retired colleagues from Jordanian Public Security Service through a Facebook group called “Sisters of Wasfi and Hazza – Asayel”.
She told “Arab Today” that, after 3 years of retirement, she felt herself distant from all her friends whom she worked with during her job at the public security services, which made her thinks of a way to gather everyone back together, so she started a Facebook group to include General Security Service in particular and the armed forces in general. This group will help with social communication, publishing jobs ads, updates about the life after retirement, whether working with refugees’ camps, international organizations, armed forces or teaching in universities.
She chose this name to honor Jordanian Wasfi al-Tal and Hazza al-Majali, who served the country faithfully, adding that she only wanted to include public security retired women, but the group spread to include other retired from Civil Defense and the Jordanian Armed Forces.
She stressed that, the goals of this group are to document the military women stories, news and activities in peace keeping, or any assignment in or outside Jordan
She said that the group has 562 members of officers, who exerted great effort to stand together women and men to serve the country, through their achievements, sacrifices and never ending work, adding that they are the reason she created this group and she hopes many others will join them.
