German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday that changing the world for the better is possible.

In her speech at the UN Sustainable Development Summit on Friday, she said Germany pledged to eliminate poverty by 2030.

She added that the elimination of Ebola virus proved to the whole world that the strong interaction of countries can lead to a successful outcome.

The UN Sustainable Development Summit 2015 kicked off here on Friday.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and 150 other world leaders are taking part in the three-day summit.

It will serve as the launch pad for action by the international community and by national governments to promote shared prosperity and well-being for all over the next 15 years.

Agreed by the 193 Member States of the UN, the new framework, Transforming Our World: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, consists of a Declaration, 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, a section on means of implementation and renewed global partnership, and a framework for review and follow-up.
