Eighty three bahraini candidates have filed their nominations to contest in 18 constituencies in the September 24 by-elections. There was a three-day window in which the candidates could file their nominations, yesterday being the last. In the first two days, 44 people registered as candidates. Till then there was only a single candidate in five constituencies, who would have been elected to the Parliament uncontested. This includes six women contestants. Two applications were rejected. Candidates can opt out of the race if they choose to, until September 14. More than 180,000 Bahrainis are expected to cast their votes on September 24.
