The bodies of a Moroccan sailor and a Senegalese national, who were missing following a collision last Monday off the coast of Barcelona between a Russian merchant ship and a fishing vessel, were found, rescue services said.
The body of the Moroccan national (34) was discovered Thursday by an autonomous underwater robot near the wreck of the fishing vessel before being removed by Spanish Civil Guard’s divers, the source added.
The body of the Senegalese sailor (37) was found by the same robot before being removed by the divers.
An investigation is underway by Spanish security services to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the collision.
The Moroccan and Senegalese sailors were aboard the fishing boat “El Fairell” which sunk following a collision with a Russian merchant vessel on Monday at nearly three nautical miles from the port of Barcelona.
The captain of the fishing vessel and a sailor were rescued by the crew of the Russian cargo ship and then transferred to a hospital in Barcelona.
