Abu Dhabi Polymers Company, Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, and Austria-based Borealis, has won the highly-acclaimed Gold category during the 15th cycle of the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, SKEA, in recognition of its outstanding performance and commitment to excellence throughout its operations.
In a ceremony held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the award was presented by Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, to Ahmed Omar Abdulla, CEO of Borouge.
The high-profile celebration held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi was attended by ADNOC and Borouge senior executives, local dignitaries and representatives from the private and public sectors.
Over the past weeks, an expert team of volunteer SKEA assessors, comprised of industry experts, spent over 300 hours evaluating Borouge’s journey towards excellence, including planning, on-site engagement and reporting.
Achieving Gold in SKEA is a testament to the company’s relentless pursuit of excellence, Ahmed Omar Abdulla, CEO of Borouge said on the occasion. "We are proud to receive this prestigious award which reflects our commitment to excellence in everything we do. The award demonstrates Borouge’s focus on realising our mission of ‘value creation though people and innovation’ and underlines our position as a leading, regional petrochemicals producer with global reach."
He thanked ADNOC and Borealis for their continuous support, and extended his gratitude and appreciation to colleagues at Borouge "who have invested their time and efforts to ensure we win."
"We are impressed with the comprehensive, cross disciplinary approach of the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award," added Obaid Al Dhaheri, SVP Corporate Affairs at Borouge. "We value the feedback that we will receive from the assessors and we will use it to further enhance our processes and ensure that our business continues to positively contribute to the industry, to the UAE economy and to greater society."
Borouge has launched several engaging initiatives that improve performance and serve as a catalyst for excellence throughout the organisation. These include the ‘Borouge Innovation Awards’, ‘My Idea!’, an employee suggestion scheme, ‘Society Perception Survey’, and the ‘i5’, a unique continuous improvement approach deployed for effective project management and problem solving.
Adopting the European Foundation for Quality Management, EFQM, the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award was launched by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ADCCI, in 1999 as a tool to drive continuous improvement in organisations, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of the business sector in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
