An eight-month-old boy was admitted to Latifa Hospital after being physically abused by his parents.
Dubai Police officers said the boy was found to have severe bruising across his body.
Brigadier Mohammed Al Murr, director of Dubai Police’s human rights department, said they were alerted by a doctor at Latifa Hospital who suspected the child was being abused by his parents.
"The parents admitted the child to the hospital, claiming he fell from a couch. However, an examination proved he had been beaten in different parts of his body.
Brigadier Al Murr said a specialist from the women and children protection department was assigned to the boy.
When police questioned the parents about the bruises, the mother said the father beat the boy.
She said: "My husband beats my child all the time whenever we fight."
Colonel Abu Bakr Al Jassmi, director of the child and women protection department, said: "Legal action has been taken against the parents. The child will be kept in the hospital until he recovers, under the supervision of its administration in coordination with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children."
