Interior Minister, Taieb Cherkaoui, said on Wednesday that calm has returned to Dakhla and that its population lives in peace and tranquility after the deplorable events that took place in the city on Sunday following a football match between local Mouloudia and Chabab AL-Mohammadia. Addressing the Interior, decentralization and infrastructures commission at the lower house, the Minister said, noting that the authorities spared no effort to ensure the return of normal life and restore order in the city of Dakhla. The Public prosecutor ordered the launch of an enquiry to arrest all the individuals who were involved in the incidents, said Cherkaoui. Eight were already arrested and brought before justice while investigations are ongoing to arrest the other perpetrators, he added. The violence that followed the match left seven people dead, including two law enforcement officers. Three people of the killed were intentionally run over by four wheel drive vehicles with criminal records holders on board. The other victims, including two law enforcement officers, were killed in clashes.
