The supreme disciplinary board of judges issued an irrevocable ruling sending senior judge at the Tanta court of appeals el Walid el Shafie to compulsory retirement over his involvement in politics.
The board said in its ruling that Shafie has been a side to an interview published in a newspaper, in which he expounded on the bad security and economic conditions in the country, criticized the government and objected the protest law and judicial orders to freeze funds of some persons.
Discussing those issues is deemed politics, where judges under the law are prohibited to work in or give opinions on, it said.
Shafie is a judge not a public figure and should not have given his opinions publicly on the country's general affairs, it said, adding that due to his wrongdoing, he is deemed incompetent to work in the judiciary.
