Premier updated on villagers’ service needs

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has extended profound congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Bahraini people and Arab and Muslim nations on Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)'s birthday, wishing them many happy returns of the occasion. This came as HRH the Prime Minister chaired the regular weekly Cabinet session, at the Gudaibiya Palace today. The session called for the need to take advantage of the auspicious religious occasion and draw inspiration from the life of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to foster solidarity, unity and compassion, a statement by the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Dr. Yasser bin Isa Al-Nasser said. The Cabinet also welcomed the current visit of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar the Sultan and Sovereign Ruler of the State and Territory of Johor Darul Ta'zim in sisterly Malaysia to Bahrain at the invitation of HM King Hamad, given its great importance in enhancing Bahraini-Malaysian relations and in bolstering cooperation between the two countries, wishing the kingdom’s distinguished guest a happy stay here. Commenting on the 26th Middle East International Jewellery and Watch Exhibition (Jewellery Arabia 2017), hosted by the Kingdom recently, the session considered it as one of the most prominent economic events thanks to HRH the Premier’s patronage spanning more than a quarter of a century. Jewellery Arabia provides a trade, investment and tourism environment that boosts the kingdom’s exhibitions industry and promotes its investment opportunities, a report by the Industry, Commerce and Industry Minister said. The report revealed that the number of visitors of Jewellery Arabia 2017 has risen by four per cent compared with the previous edition. Regarding the Bahraini Women’s Day, observed on December 1 every year, the session recalled with pride and appreciation Bahraini women’s landmark achievements and effective participation in the kingdom’s development, political and social march. In this context, the session praised the commendable great efforts exerted by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), under the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and the SCW President, to consolidate the Bahraini women’s gains and empower them. The Cabinet condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack that had targeted the Al-Rawda village mosque in North Sinai, Egypt, and resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of innocent worshippers, stressing that the heinous terror crime was carried out by merciless terrorists who hold misguided extremist ideology. The session extended deepest condolences to brotherly Egypt –president, government and people, praying to Allah the Almighty to bless the families of the victims with patience and fortitude and the wounded with quick recovery. It also reiterated Bahrain’s stance in support of Egypt and the measures it takes for the sake of safeguarding its security and stability, as well as of eliminating "black" terrorism and those harbouring it. In a related context, the Cabinet welcomed the final statement issued by the first meeting of the defence ministers of the countries of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), held recently in Riyadh, in which the participants affirmed resolve to counter terrorism by all means. On development issues, HRH the Prime Minister followed up on the results of the visits of services ministers, upon his directives, to villages and towns to identify the needs of the citizens there. Today’s session reviewed reports on the achievements regarding electricity and water services, as well as social welfare and insurance services in the ten villages and towns visited by the ministers, including Duraz, Budaiya, Bani Jamra, Al Qurayyah, Um Al-Hassam, Al-Hoora and Gudaibiya, Galali, Sitra and Al-Nabih Saleh. A memorandum submitted by the Electricity and Water Affairs Minister revealed that old water networks had been replaced by new ones in Sitra, Nabih Saleh and Jannoussan, and the distribution networks had been strengthened in the other regions. Water networks for housing projects have been set up and maintenance of networks has been conducted, he added. Regarding electricity, the minister said, new power stations have been built, electricity networks have been strengthened and roads have been provided with lights and lamp posts. Concerning labour and social services in the ten towns and villages, three employment offices have been opened, four job expos have been held to provide more opportunities to job-seekers in those areas, and the demands of many citizens related to social insurance and protection for individuals and families have been met, a memorandum by the Labour and Social Development Minister said. The memorandum also highlighted plans to build two model community centres, as well as an integrated community centre, and the acquisition of a land lot to build an elderly care home. The other demands are being examined by the Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure, the minister said. HRH Premier also gave directives to revamp roads in the Sanabis village, re-pave intersections, set up rainwater drainage networks, provide sidewalks for pedestrians and set up underground pipes for future use. The Cabinet decided to update the kingdom’s terror list by adding four entities and 22 individuals included in the two statements issued by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt on October 25 and November 22.   The entities are:   1. Alaa Ali Ali Mohammed Al-Samahi   The session endorsed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the environmental systems of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be signed between the Kingdom’s Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry and the US Small Business Administration (SBA). The Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister was mandated to sign, on behalf of the kingdom, the MoU aiming to enhance the exchange of expertise and visits on developing SMEs, as recommended by the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs in the memorandum presented by the Deputy Premier and the panel chairman. The session also discussed the Kingdom’s accession to the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters, as amended by the 2010 Protocol, as well as to the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information, which were signed by Bahrain on June 29, as outlined in the memorandum submitted by the Minister of Finance. The Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs was tasked to take the necessary constitutional and legal procedures for the ratification process. The move is in line with Bahrain’s commitment to the standards of the Joint Disclosure System and the implementation of the automatic exchange of tax information by 2018 adopted by G20 and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as in line with its membership in the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. It is also in line with Bahrain’s commitment to international standards related the exchange of tax information. The session discussed a number of proposals related to establishing a women’s club in Galali, the provision of the needs of fishermen in the Muharraq Governorate and roads in Sanabis.
