King Abdullah II of Jordan reiterated Jordan's full support of the Palestinian people and their strive to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital during talks with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, in Ramallah on Monday.
King Abdullah also emphasised the importance of preserving the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and not to violate it, since it would have negative consequences on the region, reported the Jordanian state agency, Petra.
The two leaders had a one-on-one meeting followed by expanded talks attended by senior officials from both sides. King Abdullah stressed the importance of sustaining consultation and coordination and harmonising positions between Jordan and the Palestinian people to revive the peace process towards finding a just solution for the Palestinian cause.
Talks also touched on the importance of working with the US administration in order to push forward the peace process and relaunch serious and effective negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution.
"Intensified efforts are needed to produce tangible progress in the coming period", King Abdullah said.
He also noted the commitment of US President, Donald Trump, in wanting to realise peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis, emphasising the importance of intensifying efforts to bring about political prospects to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The Jordanian King also vowed, as his country is the custodian of Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, to continue protecting the sanctities in the holy city through working with the international community, added Petra.
