Three men face three months in jail each for trying to kill themselves and threatening to set a police lock up on fire if they were not taken to hospital. The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the three Emirati men, R.M., 26, and A.A. and A.I., both 25, with attempted suicide and threatening a police detention centre with arson. Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout sentenced R.M. in absentia. When A.A. and A.I. appeared in court, they pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors accused the trio, who are currently detained for being involved in drug cases in Al Rashidiya Police Station\'s detention centre, with attempted suicide and threatening to start a fire. According to the charges, prosecutors said the defendants threatened police officers to set fire to the detention centre if they were not taken to hospital. They were also charged with attempting suicide by cutting their wrists with razors. Swift medical intervention helped save the lives of the defendants. An Emirati police major said the duty officer informed him over the phone that the defendants tried to kill themselves inside the lock up. \"The duty officer warned me that the defendants used razors to cut their wrists so they bleed to death. They threatened the jail wardens that they would set fire to the detention in case they were not taken to hospital for treatment,\" the major told prosecutors. From / Gulf News
